Biodiversity
Biodiversity
is essential for the processes that sustain life on Earth.
A rich variety of animals, plants, and microorganisms co-create the ecosystems we rely on and share. EPP is committed to protecting the biodiversity and improving the quality of natural environments around the shopping centres and properties it manages.
We expand biologically active areas, counteracting the effects of urbanisation and climate change. Some of these activities are carried out as part of the LIFE Archiclima project, co-financed by the European Union under the LIFE Financial Instrument and by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
Key locations for the LIFE Archiclima project are Galeria Olimpia in Bełchatów, Galeria Młociny in Warsaw, and Galeria Solna in Inowrocław. At all these properties, we are implementing Nature-Based Solutions.
At Galeria Olimpia, we have planned and partially completed rain gardens with high retention capacity, numerous trees and bushes, and vertical gardens with plants that improve the microclimate and provide habitat for fauna.
Galeria Młociny’s transformation includes expanded green areas in front of the main entrance. Next year, we will increase the species diversity of existing rooftop gardens and introduce rain gardens to support water retention and benefit insects and birds.
Meanwhile, at Galeria Solna in Inowrocław, we have depaved the area and introduced various trees and bushes near the building, creating shaded zones and supporting natural processes. Wide pergolas to mitigate the heat island effect in the car park are currently under construction.
